About Us

Fredrick began training in Jiu Jitsu in 2002 with Franco De Camargo in the city of Orange, CA. After getting into a little trouble after high school and looking for direction, Fredrick decided to pursue Jiu Jitsu almost by chance. One day on a whim, he opened up the yellow pages to the martial arts section and called one of the numbers on an ad. Little did he know how much that call would change his life. After his first class, Fredrick was hooked and wanted to learn everything he could about this martial art. Over the next few years, Fredrick was awarded all of his belts up to brown belt by Franco De Camargo, and in 2011, he received his black belt from Carlson Gracie Jr.  

Fredrick began teaching Jiu Jitsu in 2005 by assisting Franco with instruction and by substituting when Franco would travel. 

 When asked why he started and continued his  Jiu Jitsu journey David said, “Aside from the apparent health benefits, there is also a really cool fringe benefit, you build a sense of community, the respect and admiration you get and receive from your training partners. It truly is a beautiful thing. I really fell in love (still am) with Jiu Jitsu; hell I even moved to Brazil. You just get this confidence and calmness when you train. You feel you can handle any situation.”  

His original teacher was Franco de Camargo, who himself was a Carlson Gracie blackbelt. David competed frequently and acquired medals in local tournaments. He traveled to Brazil to compete in the World Championships in 2002. Always passionate about Jiu-Jitsu, he moved to Brazil in 2004 to sharpen his training under the tutelage of Ricardo De La Riva. He began teaching in 2004 and received his Black Belt in 2009. Even though he is well known for his guard game and killer triangle choke, David is well versed in all aspects of Jiu-Jitsu.
